Virtual memory (swap file)
A SWAP FILE is an area of the hard disk assigned to swap data between RAM and the hard disk. This creates 'virtual memory'. A swap file can be used to speed up disk access. Windows 95 automatically creates virtual swap files as needed and deletes them when the computer reboots. The hard disk should have enough free space to accommodate the swap file. Generally, at least 20MB of unused hard disk space should be available for the virtual memory.
